Kids are a funny lot

Squiggles has always been clingy. Crying the moment she spots me. Absolutely delighted to come to my arms. Basically I've been the star, the moon, the sun - everything for her.

Until recently.

She's very fond of my maid who plays with her, talks to her and generally does time pass. She's always excited to see her and wants to go to her. All good, one would say.

Except when I returned home this morning after dropping my dad at work, she looked at me with no obvious signs of joy. Just a tiny smile after what seemed like ages. And when I reached out to take her, she didn't want to come!!! She started smiling but would keep turning her head and snuggle in to her 'auntie'.

How annoying........................ This after I've been at home since her birth. So, it's not like she doesn't see enough of me. Most of the time, I'm her primary caretaker. So I guess I don't understand. Or is she just growing up and now is happy to be with other people and doesn't need me all the time?

Or maybe she senses that I'm going to go back to work soon (no fixed date) and is already preparing herself?

What is it?

she's just messing with you, or it was a momentary thing. don't let it upset you.
i have the same problems with hana and she's never even been clingy. she's been daddy's girl, all along.
us moms, we're just neurotic about needing our kids' attention.

i'd be willing to bet on the last one! they have a radar on these things, you know. when Kodi senses someone is leaving town he distances himself from them, almost as a protective mechanism.
but you, don't you worry. she'll come right back - where else can she go, right? ha!

hehe.. I am sorry to be laughing.. but kids are like that.. they take whims and fancies as the time suits them.. but don't worry too much about it!!

Well, the upside is she will let you leave easily... separation anxiety can be quite traumatic for both...

My brat has recently become completely blase about my departures barely deigning to glance in my direction when I say bye... I still get a 5-star welcome though... no idea how long that will last...

I think this shows that she is now secure in the knowledge that you are always there for her and she isn't going to "lose" you. SO now she can venture out and explore secure in the knowledge that she can always run back to you when she needs to.

Don't take it to heart. M is barely 9 months old and she gets so happy when I drop her off at the daycare that she barely notices my departure - or so I thought. SO one day I stood outside the door and watched her - she looked around for me!! But she didn't cry and went back to play - which took the guilt cloak off!
