Baby in the tummy

I was feeding S by the pool the other day when she piped up with a shocker.

" mama, do you have baby in your tummy?"

&$@!)-&

Where on earth did that come from. So I calmly told her that no there was no baby in my tummy. Then I remembered that I was telling her about a friend who was pregnant and had described her as such. So serves me right.

It's just that in our friend circle everyone is expecting and we keep getting asked on when we're planning our second. It's almost like everyone's waiting for an announcement. So much so that I feel conscious when I decline to have a glass of wine as I suspect everyone will start speculating that I'm pregnant! But I just didn't expect the same question on my own home turf :).

After that we started asking S if she wanted a baby bro/ sis and having fun at her expense because her reaction, when we told her she would have to share her room and toys with the baby, was priceless. Poor thing.

I am a big girl now

S is in love with my make up. Every morning she loves watching me as I get ready for work. I
Her favourite is my lipstick which she fondly calls "lip lip". Whenever she's wanted to play with stuff I've not said much until she turned up with her lips covered in eye concealer because she'd mistaken my concealer for lip lip.

After that incident I decided to put a stop to all this playing by telling her that she could only get my make up once she was a big girl. But it's a cute sight when I see her stretching on her toes and trying to prove to me that she's a big girl. Every time we remind her that she needs to do stuff herself because she's a big girl she promptly pipes up with "can i have your lip lip now, I am a big girl now".

She is a big girl now. Too big intact. Has someone got a time capsule?

Lion dance

With Chinese new year being celebrated everywhere, squiggles' school couldn't be far behind. Tomorrow I head there to join in the celebrations. Have to take a day off and feel a bit resentful not because I don't want to go but because feel that being one of the newbie moms at school I may be conned into attending when everyone else has already figured out that there's no need to attend!
Sounds a bit mental I know.
Well the point of writing was to highlight that S was a bit scared at the prospect of watching the lion dance even though she knows there are 2 uncles inside it :). Normally she's excited about going to school but all day she has been trying to figure out how she can get out of it!

Trying out blogpress from my iPhone today. Let's see if it works.

My singing days are over

Really. They are. I remember Moppet's Mom wrote a post long back about how Moppet wouldn't fall asleep one day and she realised that the moment she stopped singing, little Moppet was snoozing away to dreamland (now I'm too lazy to find that post and link up to it, sorry).

In my case, it was something similar but not as subtle. If I remember correctly, Moppet's Mom deduced that it was the singing that was preventing the baby from falling alseep. In Squiggle land, it was a bit more clearer. It was VERY clear actually.

I mean how can you mis-interpret 'No singing'. That's really clear isn't it. When your 22 month old says loudly at bed time 'No singing', and she says it right when you start singing, then I guess even the dumbest of moms would get it. The 'No singing' was meant for me!!!

Again I'm too lazy to link up, but in the early days, I had done a post raving about benefits of being a mom, one of which was the privilege of being able to sing without anyone asking me to shut up. Guess that was short lived! It only took 22 months :).

Tagged!

Tagged by Leaving1302 and forced to shake off my inertia and come out of hibernation :). I am to share five things I love about being a mom. Ah, this should be easy..........

1. I love being a mom because I have my own little doll to play with. She provides me with full time entertainment. There is never a dull moment in the house. I look forward to coming home after work each evening and being surprised by something I could never have imagined.

2. Being a mom has taught me to appreciate the smaller things in life. I have re-discovered the joy of spotting the moon and exclaiming over it; looking for a red bus on the road and marvelling at its size; pretending to heal a hurt with a kiss.... I look at the same things but through someone else's eyes.... innocent eyes, and the world looks all different now.

3. I love being a mom because all it takes to lift me out of a crappy mood is the sound of laughter and the sunny smile that dawns on my angel's (or devil, depending on the day) face. I could be infuriated and it can all melt away, just like that.

4. I love being a mom because I get so many hugs and kisses and I mean the world to someone. It's such a great feeling when S runs across the length of the room and hugs me or decides that one kiss isn't enough and showers me with many.

5. And the best part about being a mom is that someone doesn't mind snuggling against you all night and is willing to be crushed :). There's a strong reference to someone else here!

Up for fresh air

DD's not around and this is one of those evenings that I have to myself. So finally, after months of silence I can jot down a few of the things that S has been up to. Actually, I've been so busy having fun with S, that I haven't found the time to write about it.

I woke up last Sunday and groggily walked out of my room to see S on the pot going through her morning rituals with my helper at hand. So, I'm in my old pyjamas, hair tousled and still rubbing my eyes when S pipes up in a sing song voice with a huge sweet smile on her face and says ............

SEXY MAMA!!!

Well let me tell you this that if I had been sitting on a chair I would have fallen off. Now to refresh your memory she's only 21 months old. I don't know if all kids say stuff like this or not but clearly I wasn't prepared. The only consolation was that I was sure she had no idea what it meant because I clearly did not fit the picture of a sexy mama. Oh no.

The same day I got shock no. 2. We were heading out and waiting for the lift when Ms. S, again with a big smile pipes up, "Shut up, shut up, shut up". WTF??? She doesn't go to school and she's already saying stuff which I cannot believe. My helper got a bit upset but I've convinced her that if we ignore these words, we'll be better off because she's more likely to forget them. But really, are your kids saying all this as well? It's been over a week and she hasn't said it since *anti-jinx*.

Oh and I forgot. My mom told me about this incident which is very funny too. Apparently S was wearing a long sleeves shirt one morning and the maid told her she was looking very pretty. But S disagreed. She said, "NO! No cut cut". Implying that she wasn't looking pretty because she wasn't wearing a short sleeve/sleeveless top! I know. Kids are crazy. And she doesn't get to watch much TV. Imagine if she was watching all those Hindi MTV channels with the gyrating women in no clothes *shudder*.

Oh, and the little miss is in love with my heels. I have acquired quite a few pairs recently which has not gone unnoticed by the little fashionista. This is the result.

She's chattering nineteen to the dozen as well. She can sing songs. She hums the first line of the song 'Bol na halke halke' from 'Jhoom Barabar Jhoom'. Her favourite rhyme is Incy Wincy Spider and Wheels on the Bus. What is with 'Wheels on the Bus'. Kids just love it.

Anyways, hope you're all fine and keeping well. Hope to be back soon again.

Love,

FIll in the blanks

'Tick Tock Tick Tock
I'm a little Cuckoo clock'

This is a little nursery rhyme that DD and I have spent the whole weekend trying to teach Squiggles. We play a game with Squiggles where we will say a rhyme like Twinkle Twinkle and let her say the last word in the line. E.g. 'Twinkle Twinkle Little .........." and she will pipe up with "Star"; "How I wonder what you ......." and she wil pipe up with "AAArrrr". I guess you could call it the 'fill in the blanks game'. It's kind of addictive. So, either one of us will launch into the rhyme and wait patiently for Squiggles to say the last word.

Well, now that you know what we were doing, let's get back to the rhyme in question. She obviously found this one quite easy because without much prompting she was able to say the first line and quite clearly. It was the second line that she decided to add a little twist of her own to.

Sq: Tick Tock Tick Tock
Silence.
DD: I'm a little .......
Sq: Baaaby

!!!

Everytime we played the game, she kept saying baby. And it wasn't a random conincidence. It was quite clear that she knew what the sentence meant. This is because she has spent the last few days spending the day singing, quite tunefully, the first line of a rhyme which her nanny sings to her when she's trying to put her to sleep.

'My little baby'
'wants to sleep'

And the funny thing is that she says it in the same accent as her nanny. So, 'baby' is pronounced as 'Baeyby'. It's super cute to see this one foot something creature saying 'My little Baby' :).
